Olmo and Gvardiol book tickets to Qatar 2022
10 RBL players called up | Final matchday of qualifying for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar | Forsberg and Olmo face off against each other
The 2022 World Cup is on the horizon! We're into the final stages of qualifying for next year's tournament, as four RBL players are still fighting to win their respective groups. Emil Forsberg and Sweden get set to face off against Dani Olmo and Spain, while Yussuf Poulsen and Denmark have already qualified.
Tyler Adams has been called up by the USA, while Amadou Haidara is off on international duty with Mali. Brian Brobbey (Netherlands U21s) and Hugo Novoa (Spain U19s) are also away.
Despite being included in the Hungary squad, Péter Gulácsi will remain in Leipzig to continue rehab for a stomach muscle injury. Konni Laimer will also not join up with the Austria squad due to an adductor problem.
EMIL FORSBERG (SWEDEN)
Emil Forsberg and the 'Tre Kronor' are looking to remain top of Group B, and are currently two points ahead of the second-placed Spain. Forsberg and Co. will first come up against Georgia before facing their challengers from Spain.
DANI OLMO (SPAIN)
After recovering from a muscle strain, Olmo has come off the bench in each of his last three competitive games. Now, he will come up against Greece (four points behind Spain) before a meeting with RBL teammate Forsberg and Sweden, as they look to knock them out of top spot in Group B.
DOMINIK SZOBOSZLAI (HUNGARY)
Dominik Szoboszlai, as well as currently injured Hungary teammates Willi Orban and Péter Gulácsi, only have slim chances of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup. Hungary are currently fourth in Group I, six points behind second-placed Poland. They will now need wins against both San Marino and Poland in order to keep their hopes alive. Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski and Poland will first face underdogs Andorra and have the chance of cementing themselves as runners-up in the group.
YUSSUF POULSEN (DENMARK)
Yussuf Poulsen and Denmark have already booked their tickets to the 2022 World Cup after wrapping up top spot in Group F. They will now face the Faroe Islands and Scotland as they look to become the only team with a perfect qualifying record, with 10 wins from 10 games.
JOŠKO GVARDIOL (CROATIA)
Joško Gvardiol and Croatia are currently two points behind group leaders Russia, going into their clash against the Russians on the 14th. Croatia started this international break by beating second-bottom side Malta 7-1.
ANDRÉ SILVA (PORTUGAL)
André Silva and Portugal have since moved into top spot in Group A on goal difference, after a 0-0 draw against Ireland. They are currently level on points with Serbia, who they will now face on 14th November.
TYLER ADAMS (USA)
Meanwhile, there are eight games left to play in CONCACAF qualifying, with Tyler Adams and the USA currently three points behind Mexico in second place. They will now take on Mexico and Jamaica as they look to move into top spot.
AMADOU HAIDARA (MALI)
Amadou Haidara and Mali won 3-0 against Rwanda to prematurely qualify for the third and final round of AFCON World Cup qualifiers. They will now now still need to face fellow Group E members Uganda.
BRIAN BROBBEY (NETHERLANDS U21s)
Brian Brobbey and the Netherlands U21s are looking to finish top of Group E, as they come up against Bulgaria U21s and Gibraltar U21s in the latest round of qualifying for the 2023 U21 EUROs in Georgia and Romania. They currently have three points fewer than Switzerland U21s, but have also played one game fewer.
HUGO NOVOA (SPAIN U19s)
Hugo Novoa and the Spain U19s will continue their qualifying campaign for the 2021/22 U19 EUROs in Slovakia. After scoring on his Bundesliga debut on matchday 8, Novoa and his teammates will now come up against Azerbaijan and Belgium in Group 8.
