It has been an exciting few days for Dayot Upamecano! After agreeing a two-year contract extension last week, the #MissaoFinal is next on the agenda. On Saturday, Dayot and his teammates will travel to Lisbon for the Quarter-finals of the Champions Leage. Ahead of the flight, the defender spoke about upcoming opponents Atletico Madrid and the reasons behind his decision to stay at RB Leipzig.
Upamecano on ...
... his contract extension:
"I never had any doubt that I would stay. The discussions were dragged out a little bit because of the Coronavirus and of course I wanted to talk it over with my family and my agent.
For me it was always clear that I would stay. RB Leipzig is my club and I can develop well here. There are a lot of players who I've played with for a long time now and the club has become like a family to me. I'm pleased to be able to continue being a part of it and to help the club continue our journey."
... the Champions League tournament:
"We're ready! In Atletico Madrid, we're coming up against a very experienced side who are strong in every area. We have a lot of respect for them.
But we are also a good team and have the chance to progress. It's only one game, and the coach Julian Nagelsmann will have us in the best possible shape. Looking at our training at the moment, you can tell that we're all in top spirits. We want to take that to Lisbon and wear the shirt with pride!
Of course, we'll be without our fans, but that makes us want to give even more in order to get the best out of the game for them!"
