Baku and Nusa draw RBL level twice

Leipzig came out firing after the restart and got their reward just four minutes into the second half. Ridle Baku tried his luck from a tight angle and caught City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma out at his near post to make it 1-1 (49’).

The visitors regained their lead just nine minutes later when Enzo Fernández converted an Iliman Ndiaye cross (58’), but RBL wasted little time in responding. Christopher Nkunku picked out an unmarked Antonio Nusa, who fired into the far corner to bring the Red Bulls level again at 2-2 (61’).

The game had turned into a thrilling end-to-end contest, with our boys continuing to go toe-to-toe with the favourites. City eventually found a way through for a third time, however, as Erling Haaland got on the end of Elliot Anderson’s ball across the six-yard box to restore the visitors’ lead in the 78th minute.

RBL refused to give up and kept pushing for another equaliser, but there was no way back this time. Although the Red Bulls ultimately came away with nothing to show for their efforts, they could take plenty of encouragement from a performance that had pushed City all the way.
